November (2/3)

I’m back! Here’s another short weekend post from November 12-13. At the end of a fairly normal school week, my host sister and I travelled towards Bünde once again, to visit my host dad. We arrived at about 5:00, but it was already pitch black outside (ugh, Winter...). My host dad picked us up at the train station, and we ordered pizza once we were there. We had a nice night, having fun and ending it by watching the 3rd part of the Hobbit.    The next day my host dad drove us to a nearby town, where we met my host mom to head back to Köln. At the end of the two hour trip back, I immediately met up with my friend Liz and her friend, Celina; and we walked around the Innenstadt for a while. We made plans with Marc and Emma to meet up for dinner at Hans im Glück, a popular upscale burger-chain. After a delicious dinner, we said goodbye to Liz and Celina, because they had to go back home.    After that, Emma, Marc, and I went to go get some dessert. We found a cool ch

Hello everyone! I’m not stopping yet, and I’ve only got a few more short posts till I’m caught up. This post is over my fun weekend from November 5th to the 6th; after a long, normal school week. On Saturday I went into the city to meet up with my friend Emma, whom I hadn’t seen since the fall break. We met up in the Innenstadt, and walked around for a while, looking into the various shops and stores. Emma had been to a cool poutine restaurant in the area before, so we found it and got some poutine. In case you don’t know what poutine is (I didn’t), it’s french fries with gravy and cheese curds, and it tastes really good.    The next day I met up with my friend Marc to check out another interesting restaurant in Köln. This one was called “Flake’s Corner,” and it was a cereal restaurant. That’s exactly what it sounds like, a place that sells cereal. They had every type of cereal imaginable, various flavored milks, and fancy hot chocolates. It was a pretty neat idea, although i

Last Weekend in October

So after finishing all the bigger posts over my vacation, it should be easier to write some smaller posts about weekends and other events here and there. So this post is about the weekend that directly followed my break, October 29-November 3. It was a four day weekend (thanks to Halloween and All Saints Day), so we had plenty of time to have some fun and get out of the house. Friday night I decided to make an spple pie for my host family, because there aren't really pies here (and they're so American). It turned out really well, and tasted good too. My friends Sasha, Ash, and Hannah were coming into town on Saturday, so I met up with them for a few hours, and gave them a tour of the city. It was a lot of fun, and the weather that day just happened to be amazing. After a few hours touring the Innenstadt, I had to say goodbye to meet up with my local reprasentative (CR). Our local representatives are people who live nearby, who have volunte

And the Vacation Ends

Hello again! I'm back with my post over the two days Sam stayed over with me in Köln, which shouldn't be too long. Hope you enjoy!    So as I said in my last post, we picked up Sam along our way from Hamburg to Köln, on October 20. We didn't did anything that night though, because we got back in Köln really late at night. We got plenty of rest for the fun day ahead, and woke up late the next morning. The plan was to do a tour of the city on bike, so we grabbed our bikes and hit the streets. First I showed him my school and my neighbourhood, before heading over to the Grüngurtel to see the huge parks and the massive television tower, Colonius. After riding through the parks, we headed towards the city to see the Dom.    It took a bit longer than expected, because Sam's bike chain fell off along the way. Luckily we were able to fix it, and still got there. Once we arrived, we met up with our friend Fernanda, and got some Kaffee in Küchen. After our quick bre
