Finally in Köln

Hallo und Willkommen! I think I’m a bit more on top of things now, and my blog posts should become more regular now. School is calming down a bit, and I’ve really fallen into the rhythm of German life. This post picks up on September 3, the day I left Hedersleben and began the real exchange.    After all the fun on Friday, we went to bed late and woke up very early. I packed the rest of my things, and headed out to go talk to everyone a bit, before everything got a bit crazy. We had breakfast, but it was a bit smaller and much earlier than usual. We took all our bags and luggage down to the fawyer, and prepared to leave. The cooks at the monastery had prepared us small sack lunches for our trips, so we all grabbed one before heading out the door. It was sad, leaving the monastery, after we had all made so many good memories there. We said some goodbyes right then and there, because people who were placed relatively close to Hedersleben were being picked up by th...

Last Weeks in Hedersleben

Welcome back! Here's the second half I promised in the last post. I was going to make the two into one post, but I soon realized that wasn't the best idea. So hopefully splitting into two shorter posts works better, and makes it a bit easier to enjoy. Anyways, this picks up on our 3rd week of language camp, on August 22. The second week had been a pretty normal week, with pretty much just class as usual. Fortunately, on the third week we had our next excursion, on August 24, to the beautiful city of Quedlinburg. Our language camp was held in Hedersleben, a tiny town 40 minutes from Magdeburg. Quedlinburg was the nearest “large” town, with a little over 20,000 people populating its streets. Since it was so close, we didn’t need to rent busses like we had for previous trips. We just hopped on the local bus line, which eventually took us to Quedlinburg. We arrived a bit on the outskirts, and walked into the town to their high school, in this case a “Realschule” (Germa...

Life in Hedersleben

Herzlich willkommen! This is now my 6th post, and I’m now just over 6 weeks into my exchange. I recently added all my pictures to my last post, so you should check it out again! This is a super late post about the second half of language camp, and I’m so sorry this took me so long. I think from now on I’ll keep my posts shorter and less elaborate, and hopefully that will speed up the process. Anyways, this post is over the middle part of language camp, and what a normal day was like. It covers from August 15 to August 24. I hope you enjoy!    For one and a half weeks after our trip to Leipzig we had a completely normal class schedule every day. A normal day for me started very early in the morning. I usually woke up at 5:50, and after getting ready for the morning I would be out by 6:20. Breakfast didn’t start until 8:00, so I used this time to write blogs, read my friends blogs (you should check them out too! Look for the “other CBYX blogs” tab at the top), edi...

I'm back! I hoped you liked my last post (I don't really know what happened, but it should work now. This post follows me right after boarding my flight, and through my fantastic first week of Language Camp. There aren't any pictures in this post, because it would take days to upload all my pictures on this WiFi. I'll re-post this later with all the pictures (when I'm with my host family). Right now I've been in Germany for 3 weeks, and I'm so sorry I wasn't able to post this sooner (bad WiFi and I've been really busy). Anyways, a lot has happened, and I'm going to try to cram it all into this post, so grab some popcorn and get comfortable!    Let's begin on Monday afternoon, August 8, as I quickly finish my last meal in the US (a mere muffin and bagel), put my laptop away, use the restroom, and get in line to board my flight. I had gotten a middle seat (very middle, the farthest from the windows), which I wasn't thrilled a...
